Curriculum Intent

At Harewood we are enthusiastic about being curious, life-long learners. We provide a rich and relevant curriculum which we constantly review to ensure it meets the needs of all our children. We have high aspirations for everyone; we are committed to nurturing young writers, performers, readers, mathematicians, scientists, historians, geographers, artists, designers, musicians, sports persons and computer scientists. We want them to make the best of their future, whatever that may be.

Children are actively encouraged to follow their passions whilst becoming holistic learners, well-equipped to reach their full potential.

We want our curriculum to:

  • Develop a rich knowledge of vocabulary.
  • Develop a thirst for learning.
  • Give children the skills they need for later life (Cultural Capital).
  • Enable our children to respect the opinions and beliefs of others.
  • Teach our children about the world around them.
  • Give memorable experiences to enrich their lives.

At Harewood we believe all children have the right to receive a quality, well rounded education that raises aspiration and focuses on high expectation. We seek to deliver a curriculum which inspires and challenges our children to become confident and competent in their own abilities and which enables them to move forward in life and learning.

Our journey is always underpinned by the central Christian belief that ‘Educating for Life in all it’s Fullness,’ and as such, we work closely with parents and carers to ensure our children receive the help and support they need to attain and make excellent progress, regardless of their starting point. We ensure our curriculum is accessible to all and we adapt this to meet the needs of our learners.

As a Church of England School, we provide our children with opportunities to explore and develop their own beliefs based around central Christian and British Values including kindness, tolerance, respect and choice. These values include the highest expectations of positive behaviour and are reflected all aspects of school life including assembly times and times of Worship.

We offer a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum covering all areas of the National Curriculum and enhanced by additional art, dance and drama projects, educational and residential visits, sporting activities and musical opportunities. Lunch time and after school clubs, led by staff, children and outside coaches further enhance our curriculum offer to our children and we ensure that regular learning updates, drop – ins and newsletters ensure our families know what is on offer and can support us, where they are able to.
