At Harewood, spirituality is at the heart of our vision and ethos. We believe that nurturing pupils’ spiritual development is a vital part of enabling every child to flourish and live life in all its fullness.
Spiritual development supports children in understanding themselves, their relationships with others, and the world around them. It helps pupils to reflect on their experiences, explore big questions about meaning and purpose, and develop a sense of awe and wonder, our ‘wows’ and ‘oohs’. Rooted in our Christian values, we aim to provide opportunities for all children to grow spiritually, regardless of their individual beliefs or backgrounds.
We understand spirituality as something personal and unique to each individual. It is not something that can be measured, but something that can be nurtured over time. It may be experienced through moments of reflection, creativity, connection with others, appreciation of beauty, or a sense of something bigger than ourselves. At our school, spirituality is woven through all aspects of school life, including collective worship, curriculum learning, and everyday interactions.

We use the “Windows, Mirrors and Doors” approach to support children’s spiritual development:
Through this approach, we aim to develop thoughtful, reflective, and compassionate individuals who are equipped to engage positively with the world around them.
